It is frequently used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, cellulose ether, nitrocellulose, celluloid, chlorinated rubber, various resins, fats, and oils, and as acetylene absorbent. It is increasingly being used in the synthesis of a variety of chemicals, including diacetone alcohol, methyl isobutyl ketone, phorone, is phorone, methyl methacrylate, and various resins, pharmaceuticals, and perfumes.
